2016 Site Visit Kick-Off | A Huge Success

This year’s Site Visit Kick-Off on September 29th attracted over 200 members and guests who gathered at The Fess Parker to hear from six of the seven local nonprofit agencies—the 2015-16 recipients of $470,000 in Women’s Fund grants last May.

The lively panel discussion, moderated by Carla Whitacre, featured agency representatives who detailed the meaningful contributions to the community that the grants have made possible. Armed with examples and stories of success, the panelists thanked the Women’s Fund at every turn for helping them make a difference in the south Santa Barbara county.

There's a New Group in Town...Breast Friends

It all started with the generosity of Pueblo Radiology and Santa Barbara Women’s Imaging Center, who underwrote the Women’s Fund Individual Membership reception last June. From there, it blossomed. Following the event, Julie Salinas and Dr. Winnie Leung, both on staff at Pueblo Radiology, expressed interest in the Women’s Fund and the work we accomplish. So Nancy Harter—Women’s Fund Steering Co-Chair and spouse of the President of Pueblo Radiology, Larry Harter, M.D.—invited them to attend the New and Prospective Members’ Reception, held in August.

Julie attended the reception and came away with the idea to start a group and open it to any fellow employees who wanted to join. Success! Membership in Breast Friends now stands at seven, with all members contributing and Pueblo Radiology underwriting a portion of the group’s sponsorship.

Nancy correlates the formation of Breast Friends to workplaces who sponsor Fantasy Football teams. It’s a team-builder in the workplace and a win for our Santa Barbara community.

What a great way to bring new members to the Women’s Fund—businesses who employ groups of women and want to share the benefits of workplace collegiality and give to their community. If this rings a bell, please reach out to the Women’s Fund membership committee to help you or a friend start another workplace group.
