How the Fund Works

The Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara is a volunteer-led collective donor organization that enables women to combine our charitable dollars into significant grants addressing the critical needs of women, children and families in south Santa Barbara County. The Women’s Fund educates and inspires women to engage in making lasting change in our community.

The concept is simple. Each year:

WE WELCOME ALL WOMEN to join as individual members for $2,750 or more, or as part of a group totaling $2,750 or more.

WE IDENTIFY critical community issues to be researched.

WE RESEARCH local nonprofits addressing selected issues and create a ballot of possible grants for members to consider. The research process includes a thorough review of a nonprofit's goals, financials, leadership, sustainability and measurable results and ensures that all projects are compelling and worthy of support.

WE VOTE in the spring to choose the nonprofits the Women's Fund will support with our annual membership donations collected during the previous calendar year..

WE CELEBRATE the announcement of recipients at our Celebration of Grants event in the spring.

WE VISIT grantee sites in the fall and review mid-year and final reports to assess the outcomes our funding has accomplished.

The Women's Fund of Santa Barbara is committed to building a large community of educated, strategic givers who are inspired to make lasting change in our community through the impact of collective giving.

Women's Fund Calendar

Membership donations collected during this calendar year make up the grants pool we will award next spring, as shown in the graph below.

They understood the strength of our program and the importance of attracting women to engineering. They believed in the future of the Academy and made our first large gift. Everything the DPEA has become we owe to the start we received from the Women's Fund.   -Amir Abo-Shaeer, Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy, 2008-09 Grant Recipient
