How the Fund Works

The Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara is a volunteer-led collective donor organization that enables women to combine our charitable dollars into significant grants addressing the critical needs of women, children and families in south Santa Barbara County. The Women’s Fund educates and inspires women to engage in making lasting change in our community.

The concept is simple. Each year:

WE WELCOME ALL WOMEN! Join as an Individual member with a donation of $2,750 or more. Join as part of a group with a minimum donation of $275. You group's total donation will equal $2,750 or more.

WE IDENTIFY critical community issues and research them.

WE RESEARCH local nonprofits addressing selected issues and create a ballot of possible grants for members to consider. The research process includes a thorough review of a nonprofit's goals, financials, leadership, sustainability and measurable results and ensures that all projects are compelling and worthy of support.

WE VOTE in the spring to choose the nonprofits we will support with our annual membership donations collected during the previous calendar year.

WE CELEBRATE the announcement of the nonprofit awarded grants at our Celebration of Grants event in the spring.

WE VISIT grantee sites and review mid-year and final reports to assess the outcomes our funding has accomplished.

The Women's Fund of Santa Barbara is committed to building a large community of educated, strategic givers who are inspired to make lasting change in our community through the impact of collective giving.

They understood the strength of our program and the importance of attracting women to engineering. They believed in the future of the Academy and made our first large gift. Everything the DPEA has become we owe to the start we received from the Women's Fund.   -Amir Abo-Shaeer, Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy, 2008-09 Grant Recipient
