Laurie has been a member of the Women's Fund since 2008. After joining the Research Committee in 2011, she served as Research Committee Co-Chair for two years and then as grantee liaison. She also chaired the Steering Committee. She grew up in Chicago and earned a B.A. from University of Illinois. Laurie's early career was in financial services and in 1982 she founded her own financial research company. Laurie's interests are in the welfare of families and children. In Louisville KY, she served on the board of Home of the Innocents, a children's emergency shelter and pediatric convalescent center. In Los Angeles, she was a member of a foster family agency board. Since moving to Santa Barbara in 2000 she has been involved with several non profits: as co-chair of the Newcomers Club community service committee, as leader of the United Way's "Lunch Bunch" program, as a board member and interim Executive Director of the Nonprofit Support Center. She is a past member of Social Venture Partners and and a past board president of Transition House.
