$ 50,000 grant
2011-12
Prevention program to address local youth-on-youth violence and gang involvement.

This grant funded community-based outreach and mentoring into the poorest neighborhoods where youth are at greatest risk of dropping out of school and/or becoming involved in gang activity.  The program serves about 200 teens and their families and focuses on developing in each young person a sense of personal responsibility, a positive sense of self and emotional self-control with the goal of changing negative attitudes and behaviors. Participants receive emotional support as well as educational guidance, tutoring, direction to drug and anger management counseling, job counseling, and exposure to community-based activities in sports and the arts.
