Domestic Violence Solutions: playground construction in progress
$ 50,000 grant
2013-14
Security systems upgrade and safe playground surface.

The grant provided capital funding to install security cameras and monitoring systems at the agency's Santa Barbara Emergency Shelter and at the Santa Barbara Second Stage Transitional Housing site. The money also supported the installation of a usable playground at one of the facilities. Last year, Domestic Violence Solutions served 159 victims of domestic abuse and their children, providing them with emergency shelter for up to 18 months and offering a full range of other support systems. Women fleeing a domestic violence situation can be vulnerable to threats, harassment and stalking and it is critical to replace the obsolete security systems with effective early warning systems. These children have experienced severe trauma and thus benefit from a safe and happy play area.
