Biography

Ann has been a member of the Women's Fund since 2013 and joined the Research Committee in 2014. She has lived in Santa Barbara since 1982, when she joined the faculty of the Teacher Education Program at UCSB where she taught for 35 years. In addition to her work throughout California, Ann has worked with teachers in Argentina, Chile, Perú, Uruguay, México and Micronesia. She was a Fulbright scholar in South America in 1988. She also has worked as an Academic Specialist under contract with the United States Information Agency. Ann received her BA degree in Comparative Literature and teaching credential from USC, her MA and PhD degrees in Education from UCSB. Prior to her work in teacher education, Ann taught in public schools, much of that time as a bilingual educator. She chairs the Education Committee of the Mental Wellness Center, responsible for developing and teaching Mental Health Matters. Ann also teaches NAMI Family-to-Family courses as well as Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid. In 2016, Ann was named a local hero by The Santa Barbara Independent for her work in mental health education.
