Kim moved to Santa Barbara from Northern California in 2013 and joined the Women’s Fund the following year. She retired in 2012 after 30 years of teaching elementary school in Chico, CA. There, her career focused on the special needs of English learners and promoting bilingualism and cross-cultural understanding through English Language Development and Two-Way Immersion programs, teaching multiple subjects in both English and Spanish. Kim has a BA in Liberal Studies, Bilingual Emphasis, and a K-12 Multiple Subject Bilingual Cross-Cultural Life Credential from CSU, Chico. She remains passionate about children’s literacy and humane education, and has found the perfect expression of those passions as a community volunteer with her companion and certified therapy dog, Lily Rose, and Therapy Dogs of Santa Barbara, which serves local school children, seniors, and various local nonprofits.
