Early Childhood Classroom Behavior Intervention

Goleta Union School District (GUSD) has introduced an Early Childhood Consultation Program at three elementary schools that helps 3-5 year olds learn how to better interact and focus in a classroom setting.  Based on a successful program at the Santa Barbara Schools, it embeds a consultant from CALM in each classroom one day a week to help children master Social Emotional Learning Skills so they can better understand their emotions and manage their behavior. The consultant also helps teachers, in the moment, think about why the child might be acting out and consider constructive options to respond using Reflective Practice. The consultant also holds after-class learning sessions with teachers and guides parents in addressing children’s behavioral issues. This grant will expand this on-site team intervention program by funding an additional Early Childhood Consultant. Goleta Education Foundation is the fiscal agent.
